South Side in Focus describes itself as:
“The organization that originated from an interest in broadening our understanding of the community we live in, beyond the media portrayal emphasizing violence and poverty. We use photo-narratives to initiate an open, personal, and holistic dialogue about life in South Side communities.
Over the past few months, we asked members of IG row Chicago, Blackstone Bicycle Works, Creativity in Motion, Urban Juncture Foundation, and the Artful Living Program to take photos of what makes them feel well or unwell in their communities. We then used these photos to collect oral histories about their lives and communities. “Heal Our City” is the debut of these unique stories.
