You don’t have to be a vegan to enjoy vegan food. I think the best thing we can do for ourselves is opening our minds to enjoying all different kinds of foods. Too many of us don’t allow ourselves to take part in the joy of discovery, even with the smallest things in our lives like trying new kinds of foods. One thing is for sure, no matter what your primary choice of protein is, meat and meatless meals, alike can get repetitive and boring over time. The upside to meat eaters, is you now have another whole world of food discovery to indulge in.
Vegan restaurants are now getting customers they normally wouldn’t get simply because they offer different menu options similar to standard meat entrees and now located in areas where other vegan places aren’t. I admit, the name of this restaurant “Ground Control” sounds like a movie about a military quarantine right? Yea, I was completely taken back by the name as well, but the funny thing is, after thinking about it a bit, it actually makes a lot of sense.
We really should be taking more control over what we putin our bodies. Ground Control The restaurant, is located on the westside of Chicago, an area I rarely visit. As of recently, however, I’ve had more than enough reasons to get re-acquainted. They are a prime example of getting in customers who are not vegans like myself. I came across this place by searching for vegan restaurants in area where I currently attend class, my friend who was driving us to class is vegan and I ‘ve been open to expanding my pallet lately, so it was a convenient stop along the way. It’s a small and swanky joint with a very relaxed atmosphere, great place to pop in for a late lunch, an early dinner, or happy hour! The menu choices are very tasty. The interesting thing I’ve learned about vegan food is how to get more creative with all the food groups.
I find it intriguing to see vegetables, grains, and protein dressed and treated as fillers the same way meat is served for a standard entrée. Below are some of my personal favorites, the Blackened PO Boy Meal, The Seitan Tacos, and The Sweet Potato Tacos. I’m not a drinker so when i had the opportunity to try a Bloody Mary for the first time, i was actually very pleased to have the pleasure to experience my first one there. I’ve never had a drink that came with an appetizer so from the moment i saw the presentation of the drink, i was immediately thrilled. Not only did it come with what i refer to as an unofficial appetizer, but it was a really good pickled, fried green tomato. It was cooked really well, i mean perfectly battered, fried and cut to dress up the glass as if any other piece of fruit. It had the an extra pickle, an olive, an a piece of celery or what the average bloody Mary has as well. Over all the drink had a little bit of a spice to it which i loved but if you struggle with heart burn, this drink may not be yours of a smart choice. Other than that, one word…. Amazing.
